Today we explored more of Modbury. We found quite a few circular walks, using the local footpaths. We chose one called Rogue’s Roost Ramble, which was 3 1/4 miles and classed as moderate.
We parked in the long stay car park, called Poundwell Meadow car park. There is also a short stay car park right next to it too, called Poundwell Street car park. You can pay by RingGo on the app using the location code 3475 for the long stay and 3483 for the short stay. Otherwise the machine accepts cash and prices are below. We parked in the long stay and didn’t take more than two hours. Just depends if you wanted to stop for lunch during the walk.
Long stay car park:
| 30 mins | £0.10 |
| 1 hour | £0.60 |
| 2 hours | £1.60 |
| 3 hours | £2.40 |
| 4 hours | £2.90 |
| All day | £5.00 |
Short stay car park:
| 30 mins | £0.50 |
| 1 hour | £1.00 |
| 2 hours | £1.70 |

The walk starts at the bottom of the long stay car park, down a lane next to a small stream. Here we met some lovely horses in the field next to the path!
The walk is great. Has a mixture of fields, paths and lanes.

We found the instructions easy to follow and the map clear to use as a reference.
Most of the fields we passed through didn’t have livestock in but as that can change overnight, please be alert and keep dogs on lead until you know there are no livestock around.

Towards the end, the walk takes you down a lane next to a farm entrance called Butland Farm and towards another farm called Cottlass Farm. This lane is quite long but don’t worry, you haven’t gone wrong! There is a sign at the top of the lane but it had fallen down when we did the walk, so just keep an eye out!

You then join a green lane, which is lovely to come across. No vehicles can use this, so you know you’re ok when walking with the dogs!

All the stiles and gates were clearly labelled with the footpath signs, which is helpful as this isn’t always the case!

The walk is classed as moderate. I would say 90% was easy to manage. You just need to be conscious of the fact there a few stiles to climb, there are also a few steep steps and one part is a steady climb uphill. But it is doable but take some good walking shoes!!
There are poo bins at the beginning and end of the walk. We would recommend a poo bag holder for walks like this. No one wants to be carrying a poo bag for miles!! We got ours from Princetown tourist office but you can also find them here.
Modbury has lots of little shops, pubs and cafes for before or after the walk. But we warned, mostly everything is closed on Sundays!
