Rock Valley Circular Coastal Walk

Rock Valley Walk – 3.7 miles

The walk includes fields, farmland, woodland, waterfalls, rivers and of course the coast and beaches!

The postcode to parking takes you to big layby to start the walk. The layby is called Halgabron Rocky Valley Layby – PL34 0BB. However, if you cannot park here there is a carpark further up the road that we found later on (when we changed the walk slightly!) You can find this using this address: Bossiney PL34 0AY. It is on the right opposite the Tea Rooms and only a 2 min drive from the layby. They layby is free and the car park at Bossiney is £1 all day.

If parking in the layby, you need to head up the steep road to your right if you are facing the layby. This road winds up and you pass a couple of houses on the way. Once you approach a farm, there is a footpath sign on the left, leading into and down through a field.

If you park at the Bossiney car park then you will need to follow the road back towards the layby and then follow the same instructions

From here you will follow a footpath through woodland and alongside the river, all the way to St Nectans Glen Waterfall.

You have to pay to see the waterfall, which we didn’t do. If you do want to then you can find the details for it here.

From here you will pass the main entrance to the waterfall and if you go left up the steps next to the cafe, you can continue your journey. There are toilets here, so make the use of this as you don’t pass anymore on the walk until the end!

On the lane it wants you to take, we noticed had signs on saying that the road was not a suitable exit and to exit through the woodland. However, we found the lane fine and suitable for walking. So continue to follow this lane as per the instructions.

When you get to the end of the lane you will have to do the next small bit of the walk along the road. However, there is a verge to walk on, so just make sure the dogs are on tight leads!

The walk will then take you through fields, farmland and past an old church. From there you will start to join the coast path.

The coast line here is very dramatic and we had to stop a couple of times along the way just to take it all in!

The rest of the walk is following the coast path, until you reach the Rocky Valley, which dips down some very steep steps. From here the walk takes you back up to the left and back along the road to the layby.

However, we wanted to continue exploring and I am so glad we did! We walked up from the Rocky Valley and continued on the coast path.

This is where we came across the stunning Benoath Cove, alongside Bossiney Cove. Benoath Cove is bigger than Bossiney Cove and at low tide you can walk to both. You can also access both from the coastal path. Benoath Cove has a steep path down to it and the last bit is down by climbing down a rope on the rocks. You need to have good footwear and be a confident walker! However, when you are down there it is absolutely worth the trek! You can also access Bossiney Cove via the coastal path via some steep steps but this was closed when we were there, due to a landslide. So please make sure you check ahead!

We of course went down and explored the beaches which the dogs loved.

Once we climbed back up, you can follow the path round and up through the field and this leads back to Bossiney Car park. If you parked at the layby and wanted to do this extra bit of the walk, then you just need to walk back along the road to the layby.

I have included the walk map below. From number 8 if you continue along and follow the green dotted line (coastal path) along the coast and then up through the field, you will find yourself at the carpark (where it says PC on the map) This also means toilets, so you can use these before you head home!

Make sure you check out the Tea Rooms near the car park! They had fantastic food and a lovely garden to enjoy if sunny! Dog friendly of course. They brought the dogs treats and water! They were very happy.

We hope you enjoy this walk and the edit we made to it! It was worth it!
