Shaugh Prior is a fantastic walk on Dartmoor, without the real risk you will run into any livestock!
Shaugh Prior has two car parks, one before the bridge and one after. We always park in the second one, as this is where the walk starts and it saves you walking in the road.

You can walk the other side of the river but we don’t find the walk as clear.
You can find the car parks by using this post code: PL7 5HE but the car park is called Dewerstone Car Park and you will find this on your maps.
Parking is free but it can get busy!
At the end of the car park you go over a bridge and cross over The River Plym. It is normally running fast over the rocks here. It is a very beautiful sight.

Once over the bridge you follow the path up to the right. This bit is a bit steep but it doesn’t last long.

You can veer right and go and see the Dewerstone rocks which are incredible and then come back and join the route.
As you walk up the hill, the path then veers to the left and flattens out. You are quite high here and there are some rocks on the right which you can climb for an incredible view (only if you are steady on your feet and don’t mind heights!)

Follow the path until you reach a small cottage (which I think is used as a scout hut!) from there you turn left and make your way down hill. You can carry on past the cottage and through the gate and you will see a path to the left where you can drop down there instead.

You are now heading towards the river and this is the perfect place for the dogs (and you if you wish) to cool off!

This walk has everything you could need! The circular route is only a couple of miles but is one of our favourites!
